Yes, it's me. I'm the Dress Girl. I love them - they're feminine, chic, classy, easy, and (most of the time) comfortable. What's not to love? Grab one, throw it on, add some kicks and a bag - voila! You've got yourself an outfit.
Unfotrunately, though... The dress is not "economical" in a struggling, economically-challenged wardrobe such as my own. Dresses can be worn with... tights. Or... boots? Hmm... perhaps a cardigan every now and then - but that's about it. They are not, as the Food Network's Alton Brown would put it, "multitaskers". It's the dress, or not the dress. Either way, you're going to have a focal point, and it's going to be the mass of fabic you've selected to cover your body.
But don't fret, darlings! There's a solution: skirts. Skirts are as versatile as your favorite t-shirt, pants, shoes... They're a mix'n'match addict's staple.
Skirts can be made casual or dressed up, depending on what you pair it with. Yes, I'm serious! It has less to do with the make of the skirt than what you pair it with - seriously! You could have the most glam sequin skirt that looks SO classy when paired with a black, cashmere turtleneck - but if you toss a soft, graphic print tee on top, and some Converse low-tops on the bottom - instantly casual (but definitely cute!). See what I mean?
The best part about skirts is definitely their varied styles. You can get a full skirt (more voluminous and makes your legs look amazing), a straight skirt (curves, curves, curves!), a-line skirts (fall away from the hip, flattering ANY figure), or high-waisted (nips the waist and turns up the volume on your silhouette)... There are endless options.
PENCIL SKIRTS
These are an ABSOLUTE MUST when it comes to closet staples. Great for the office, great for evening outings, great for... anything! Top it with a sweater or statement top for dressier occasions, or pair it with an easy tee and sneakers for a funky, casual look.
A-LINE SKIRTS
These are the most figure-friendly skirts you'll find. They're flattering on literally everyone. They can go to work with you, then can run errands, they can have coffee dates... They're just friendly all around.
FULL SKIRTS
Full skirts are not matronly, floor-length skirts like they might muster up mental images of... In fact, they are simple skirts that add volume to your lower half, which is great for accentuating the waist, as well as making your pins look slim and toned. Pair with... anything! These are eye-catching skirts, though, so be sure you make the lookers' looks worth while.
MINI-SKIRTS
I'm going to leave the mini-skirt image collection up to your imagination because, well... If you're going to wear a mini-skirt, you're going to wear it how to want to. The mini is not for the faint of heart, and if you're the mini-wearin' type of gal, you don't need (and potentially won't hear!) and suggestions from the internet on how! =)
Get skirted!
