Weird Shoes

by Sigrid 10. January 2012 01:13

There is no such thing as too many shoes for a woman but those who are fond of shoes should never buy any of these:

This is Alexander McQueen’s Armadillo shoes. Released in the year 2010, the likes of the Armadillo were made popular by singer/songwriter Lady GaGa. Although the shoes are rather difficult to walk with and to dance with, GaGa sure loves the likes of these since she is known for her being rather quirky.

Back in the 1580s to the 1620s, the Armadillo may not have looked that bad especially if its competition looks like the photo below.

These are called Chopines and they were the shoe design of choice for many an Italian women during the start of the 17th century. Today however they can only be seen in museums.

All pairs of shoes have expiration dates. In fact, even the sturdiest leather cowboy boots “expire” as well. If you would like to protect your shoes, you may want to get a plaited birch bark shoe –a Finnish invention in the middle part of the 20th century. These shoes last only a week though because tree bark decays easily. Sweden, Russia and Norway also have their own version of bark shoes. Today, bark shoes also known as birch shoes now hang on walls inside the houses of the Finnish, the Norwegian and the Swedish.

Lotus shoes used in China may be something as weird as a bark shoe but the bark shoe is still better because at least it is comfortable and accommodates the whole foot. Lotus shoes on the other hand may as well be a symbol of oppression of women at least in a western point of view –to the Chinese however, this is considered as tradition.  It is interesting to note that there are still shops that make Lotus shoes but they are made-to-order.

The Penny Pincher's Advice On Where To Buy Shoes

by Sigrid 5. November 2011 14:47

Love shoes? We do too but with the crazy prices of shoes nowadays, it is no longer a good idea to be buying a lot of shoes. Women however need a lot of pairs to have a functional set of shoes. One pair of black shoes is not enough for the black shoe department because you may need black pumps on one occasion and black boots on the next.

If you are on a budget, you might want to take a look at Chinese Laundry. No not laundry per se but Chinese Laundry the shoe brand. Chinese Laundry offers a range of shoes you might want to take a look at and at real reasonable prices too.  Alright maybe not that affordable but compared to high end shoes, CL is definitely a good idea for shoe lovers.

Another wonderful place to go to is Payless. You can get real nice pumps like the one on the photo for only $29.99. If that is not amazing enough, there are shoes that will attract those who are not into high heeled shoes.

At Payless, there are shoes for men and boys too which means that it is a one-stop shop for those who need to buy shoes for their whole family. Payless is probably the best place online for you to buy real cheap shoes without sacrificing quality of course.

If you are thinking of buying something special i.e. a branded item that will not cost that much, it would be best to go to Piperlime. The Gap retailer sells shoes from brands such as Steve Madden and Nine West. It currently has over 200 shoe brands under its repertoire making it one of the best places to go to if you are shopping for a pair of shoes.

Your usual online shopping places such as eBay and Amazon are also good places to look for bargains.

Fabulous Flats

by Sigrid 31. October 2011 17:48

Flats are important items for every woman’s wardrobe and it does not matter how tall or how short one is. Flats are very comfortable and if worn the right way, they can be stylish too.

Give your feet a little pampering from time to time by not wearing your favorite high heeled shoes. Many however are doubtful on whether flats can ever be stylish at all.

Here’s an idea, look for flats that use a lot of colors and rich textures instead of buying a monochromatic one. There are fabulous flats in the market that either have buckles, straps and even bows to make them look cuter than other flat shoes.

If you are planning on wearing flats, make sure that you wear something that is flattering. Flats can make your legs look shorter than they really are so be sure to wear either shorts or a skirt that goes above the knee.

If you are a newbie when it comes to flat shoes and have recently decided to ditch your chic high heels because they hurt, you will love these brands:

Cole Haan –although the brand usually makes pumps and sandals, Cole Haan also releases a few cute flats.

Nine West – this brand is quite popular and offers a range of stylish flats for you to choose from.

Wanted – for those on a budget, WantedShoes.com is shoe paradise. The flats sold at Wanted are very stylish and comfy too.

Rocket Dog Shoes – another brand that is budget friendly. they make a range of cute flats including mary janes, sneakers, mules and ballerina flats.

Keen – want something cute and sporty? Go to Keen and get that sporty and rugged look in no time. If you aren’t too keen on Keen however you can always visit other shoe stores that sell flats.

Other brands to take a look at include French Sole, Corso Como, Steve Madden, Bloch London, and Me Too.

Since the economy is not doing so well, a lot of people are now trying to save their hard-earned money. Platform Sandals For The Summer

by Sigrid 4. July 2011 20:45

As the season gets warmer, the more sandals are being made. This is not a formal study of course but one can see in all the boutiques that there are so many different sandals being sold.

Platform sandals have been reinvented and they are now one of the major must-haves for this summer. Platform sandals are very practical –you don’t need to walk around in high heels and have sore feet the whole summer if you were them. They are also comfortable and still look rather elegant so there is no need to compromise with these shoes.

There are many platform sandals being sold at real affordable rates so you do not have to worry about your budget. Shoebuy.com for example sells platform sandals that are below $50.

Although some of these sandals are rather simple, you can still make do with them by getting the right dress. Platform sandals are great with maxi dresses especially for the summer of 2011. The fashion elite have spoken and they say that platform sandals are totally “in” for the season.

You can also pair your platform sandals with shorts if you want to look taller without having to burden yourself with wearing high heels.

Bakersshoes.com is also a great place to go to if you want platform sandals that are within your budget. You can get shoes as cheap as $15.99 and at this price, you may need a larger closet for your shoes!

Jessica Simpson platform sandals and shoes are also very nice. They are sold at around $99 but they are still worth buying even if they are a little bit expensive. At least it is still under $100 right? And to top it off, they are quite sturdy too and are very fashionable.

There are a lot of platform sandals being sold online and there are many cute ones that are sold at bargain prices.

Look at her style!

by Prachi 16. April 2010 06:36

In our books, Jessica Alba just can't go wrong with her impeccable sense of style and fashion. Here she is at the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival during late March in California. Shes wearing a modern abstract printed mini by Proenza Schouler with a pair of almost matching gray and neon wedges and chunky bracelets.

Make her look your own with a fabulous printed mini and wedges for the perfect summer evening look:

Calvin Klein printed mini
in red and black

Pair the printed CK dress with these daring wedges for an evening out on the town

Getting Ready for Prom!

by Prachi 1. April 2010 03:46

Its the middle of Prom Season! Girls, are you ready? The guys have it easy, they just have to pay for the prom tickets, dinner and rent a tux. No big deal. How hard can it be to rent a tux anyways...

The Dress:

If you haven't found that ideal dress yet check out our blog post from February. Maybe you'll find something you didn't notice earlier. This is my personal favorite – its to die for in purple and looks expensive, though it only costs $25.

The Shoes:

These shoes from Overstock have the look for less at under $40! You'll be able to find a ton of great buys there.

This beautiful cloth shoe has a pleated color ribbon that flows over a simple yet elegant black bow. I promise, this picture doesn't do the shoe any justice:

These formal pumps are gorgeous and perfect for prom! With 4 or 5 different colors they'll match almost any dress. The uppers are covered in rhinestones, making them glamorous and a steal!

Now these Albert Nipon pumps are stylish but probably not the best compliment to your prom dress. I just added them because they're pretty and a great deal (only $20!).

The Jewelry

This season if you check out the celebs you'll be seeing a lot of hoop earrings. And anyone been following Kristen Stewart's style? Her red carpet appearances have all been in a strapless dress without a necklace. It makes her - and her dress pop even more.

Keep your neckline empty or simple, instead wear a pair of "wow" earrings for prom - like chandelier earrings. For prom, you want the attention to center first on your dress and THEN on your jewelry. Try Zulumoon.com, they have some great earrings (and a huge sale).

I went a bit overboard with the earrings but what can I say? I love to look. The first 3 earrings are made with Marcasite (a type of gem/crystal) set in sterling silver and each is less than $30! The next 3 are made with Cubic Zirconia, also set in sterling silver.

If you click on these earrings, it will take you to their product page.

The End

Hope that helps! You've got plenty to think about when it comes to prom, this should make all that accessorizing a bit simpler.

The Look for Less: Ann Demeulemeester Lace Up Heels

by Sarah 3. February 2010 05:51

It's only taken Forever21 a year and a half to knock off these amazing Spring 2009 Ann Demeulemeester lace ups - but boy are we glad they've done so! The original Anns retail for over $800, but their relaxed military style look is undeniably cool. Jeffrey Campbell, the king of designer knockoffs, did a version of these last year - but his were still expensive. They retailed for $198 at Free People. Now, Forever21 has made a pair that retails for only $27.80. While they'll never compare to the real thing, they're a great way to get the look for a fraction of the price. Get yours here.

Converse Has Something For Everybody

by brooks 29. January 2010 15:14

From toddlers to adults, everybody can be seen wearing a comfy pair of Converse from time to time.  They come in a variety of colors from bold and bright to your basic black.  They have almost as many styles as they do colors.  There's your hi-top and your lo-top.  They have artist collaborations.  I like the simple All Star Specialty.  If you don't see something for you, you can even design your own!  Just in time for Valentine's Day, a new line of sneakers featuring the famed "LOVE" motif by Robert Indiana has been released.  What better way to say I love you than with the gift of comfort?  You can buy Converse at several retail stores or you can shop at online.  With prices starting as low as $12.00 for children's sizes and $32.99 for adult sizes, they're as easy on your wallet as they are on your feet!
