Gold, Silver, Top Jewelry Designers For 2012

by Sigrid 23. January 2012 05:26

Although in the ancient times, most peoples from across the globe wore gold, come the 13th century, medieval laws prohibited the common people to wear gold or silver. Townspeople in France were no longer allowed to adorn themselves with gold or silver because only the nobility could wear them.

This is a sad phase in terms of fashion accessories but as with any phase, it later on was forgotten and people went back to wearing gold and silver jewelry.

Gold is a favorite metal for jewelry however, silver was also quite popular in the olden times as much as it is a staple metal in jewelry making today.

If you love jewelry, here are the top designer brands you should be looking out for but there is no need for you to spend a lot of money landing on these though because there are places where you can get them at real low prices. First off let’s talk about the top brands for jewelry this 2012. Tiffany and Co. is a household favorite and every year the brand gets to launch simple yet very vibrant pieces in trendy silver.

No one forgets about Chanel when one talks about high end jewelry and this 2012, as with any other year, Chanel will be selling elegant jewelry pieces. This means ladies that pearls are in not out but if those pearl strings also have ubiquitous C logos, that would be much better.

The Kardashians are out with their new Kollection as well and yes it starts with another K but if you do not want to get something from that line, you can always take a look at the surprisingly hot jewelry collection by Nicole Richie.

If you like nature inspired jewelry however the Kardashian Kollection might be a good idea too.

Coco Chanel

by Sigrid 18. January 2012 22:07
She built an empire and today, her empire still has her name on it on over 300 Chanel stores worldwide but who is Coco Chanel? Coco was born in Saumur, France on August 19, 1883. After her mother died when the girl Gabrielle, who later in life will be called Coco, was 12, she was left in a convent by her father. Chanel learned how to sew thanks to the nuns who raised her. Her early years were not glamorous of course considering that she grew up in a convent but Gabrielle would later create timeless designs that will later function as a symbol of luxury and style. Chanel did not care for wearing corsets because she believes that luxury should be comfortable or else it shouldn’t be called luxury in the first place. The fashion pioneer got her nickname during her brief career as a cabaret singer. Chanel herself revealed that “Coco” was short for cocotte –a French word that meant “kept woman”. When Chanel was in her 20s she took a wealthy lover by the name of Etienne Balsan who was instrumental in helping her start a business in Paris. As the story goes, Chanel left Balsan for one of his friends. Arthur Capel was wealthier than Balsan and had connection so being the practical girl that she was, Coco took him as a lover. Coco Chanel set up shop at the Rue Cambon in 1910 where she started selling hats. Later on, she opened stores in Biarritz and then in Deauville and started making clothes. According to history, her first taste of being a successful designer is when she turned an old jersey of one of her lovers into a dress. The jersey was warm and it was cold in her base in Deauville. She once told that her fortune in the world of fashion started out with that jersey dress.

Celebrity Fashion: How to Get the Look For Less

by Kylie 21. February 2011 07:38

Sterling silver jewelry is a way to look great without spending a fortune on jewelry. When you are searching for jewelry pieces you will find that instead of spending money on one piece you can put together several looks for the same piece. This means you can have versatility in your wardrobe and mix and match different looks, keeping your style fresh. If you are feeling stagnant with your style give these three celebrity comparisons a try.

Get this look: Glee's Lea Michele at the 2010 Golden Globes, you can achieve this same look with these silver earrings from Zulu Moon for around $20. Drop earrings always make a great addition to a strapless dress.

Get this look: Rhianna wears these silver bamboo hoop earrings that can be found on Amazon.com for $34. Rhianna is known for her edgier style and wiliness to take risks when it comes to fashion.

Get this look: Black Swan star Natalie Portman wears a dangle earrings with a string of jewels. You can achieve the same look with an amber dangle earring with similar shapes. This earring is also from Zulu Moon for $25.

Celebrity style cues don't have to cost you an arm and a leg. You can find great deals out there, it just takes a little searching. You can save money and be fashion forward at the same time, it's all about making your dollar go further.

Hot Trend: Skeleton Key Jewelry

by Kylie 23. July 2010 04:42

Are you searching for an accessory that will unlock your style? A new jewelry trend is skeleton key jewlery, and if you are doing your back to school shopping, these key pendents are a must have for the fall. Trendsetters and young celebrites have found key jewelry to be a unique piece that can be worn as a charm, necklace or even earrings. Celebrities like Leighton Meester, Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift are wearing similar key necklaces but probably paid hundreds for a style that is simple to recreate.

The fleur-de-lis pendent, gothic designs or more traditional key designs are also a common trait found in one or more of the pieces. The inspiration behind the key jewelry is thought to have been started by the famous, Tiffany and Co. but here at the Budget Fashion Report, we are always seeking out ways to get celebrity style on a budget. One option is to actually find old keys and turn them into necklaces. Searching antique shops or even stores like Anthropologie, you may stumble across a unique looking key. Another way to achieve the same look as these celeberites is to opt for sterling silver and CZ key pendents. Going this route will still give you the great look but without the high cost.

The leighton Meester look:

Leighton is wearinga classic skeleton key design. The skeleton key design is characterized with the three loops at the top of the key. A comparable and more reasonably priced pendent would be something like this.

the Selena Gomez look:

Selena is wearing what I would classify is a more gothic design key.  This piece is a little more intricate compared to the previous pendent. Something similar to this design would be something like this charm here. The design has a fleur-de-lis in the handle and gives you that intricate patterned look. Reinvent this look with a shorter chain.

the Taylor Swift look:

Taylor is wearing a pendent that looks more like a real key than the two previous. I would recommend trying to find an actual old antique key but if you can't, a piece that is similar to this would be this key design. Recreate this look with a silver chain and loop the key onto the chain.

Celebrity Style on a Budget

by Kylie 14. June 2010 07:35

If you watch celebs walk down the red carpet they are typically dripping in jewelry. Sparkling diamonds and ulta-blinged out accessories are the norm when it comes to celebrity red carpet fashion. You can accomplish the same looks at a fraction of the price if you know where to look. Instead of spending thousands on diamonds you can get the same look with CZ (Cubic Zirconia) for a lot less and still have that sparkle. Some popular looks are chandelier, drop and dangle silver earrings. A really popular trend is light colored metals like silver, white gold and platinum. Celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Carrie Underwood and Penelope Cruz all favor the drop silver earrings. All of these celebs are wearing earrings covered in diamonds but a less expensive alternative is to look into wearing CZ, especially for a glamourous event like a Prom, black-tie dinner, formal ball, etc. Not only will the earrings look great and sparkle like a real diamond, you'll feel like a glamourous movie- star without dropping some serious scrilla.

Here are three styles of celebrity silver earrings that are very close to what the celebrities are wearing and will give you a similar look when you are on a budget.

The first style is a CZ Chandelier similar to what Kim Kardashian is wearing.

 Tear drop CZ earrings.

This next style is similar to what Carrie Underwood is wearing.

 Drop CZ Earrings

Last we have a style that is similar to what Penelope Cruz is wearing.

 Cubic Zirconia Chandelier Earrings.

The Look for Less: Nicole Richie's Maxi Dress

by Sarah 26. February 2010 04:35

We don't know about you, but we adore Nicole Richie. The starlet has transformed herself from a trashy reality TV star to a glamorous mother of two with great values and an even greater closet. Nicole is known for her bohemian look, which, despite being copied by many a celebrity, is individual to her and her only. Richie always knows how to make an outfit her own. Case in point, the look above. Her long blue silk maxi dress is pretty, but not particularly one of a kind. However, Nicole made the look her own by winterizing it with a pair of black ankle boots and a black leather jacket from her own Winter Kate collection. Get her look for less below!

C&C California Navy Blue Maxi Dress, $128

Forever21 Faux Leather Jacket, $32.80

Forever21 Black Crinkled Ankle Boots, $27.80

The Look for Less: Olivia Palermo Plays with Patterns

by Sarah 15. February 2010 04:40

Confession: we love Olivia Palermo. The socialite might not be the friendliest gal around, but she's got personal style up the wazoo. Case in point: her look at the Ports 1961 fashion show at New York fashion week last week. We can't quite figure out how Palermo manages to keep such a healthy head of hair when her legs are like toothpicks - but we have to admit that she knows how to dress.

We love the way she's paired an eclectic mix of patterns and textures in her outfit below - the plaid shirt with the wool shorts, fuzzy sweater, and black tights...it's a match made in fashionista heaven! Get a lower priced version of Olivia's outfit with the pieces below!

Cycle Wool Tweed Shorts, $39

Lucky Brand Tyler Plaid Shirt, $69.50

DKNY Marled Cardigan, $44.99

Jessica Simpson Nolita Black Heel, $69
