I want that Celeb Look

by Jessica 21. March 2009 15:12

Get The Look

In today's search for that awe inspiring Celeb look I came across our fave country singer who's been sporting some seriously hot numbers from the outerwear she sports to her accessories Taylor Swift is not simply making a sensational splash in the music world but the fashion one as well!

TAYLOR SWIFT'S DRESS photo | Taylor Swift

Here she is caught by the infamous paparazzi sporting a Yoana Baraschi sundress. Can we say gorgeous enough? No, I didn't think so but alas this fab dress is easily $400 and while I'd love to have that kind of mulah I just don't. At least not to blow all at once on one piece of fabwear. So, I went zipping around the net and came up with these similar sundresses for all the fashion recessionistas like myself who while the economy sucks still want to look as though it's not!

$78
Ecote Embroidered Print Tokyo Dress
(very feminine and free flowing like Taylor's style was though shorter)

$27.80
Contrast Floral Embroidered Top
(This one comes in a few other colors including a red)

Bring style to your office wear

by Jessica 19. March 2009 02:08

 Go to fullsize image

First it's prudent to know just what is expected at your office where dress code is concerned. In general there are usually three main dress codes that most offices fall into. They are:

  1. Formal business wear, also called traditional power business, has men dressed in dark suits, dress shirts with ties, and hard-soled shoes with dark socks. Women wear dark suits with skirt or pants, conservative blouse, close-toed heels with hosiery, and minimal jewelry and makeup.
  2. General business attire finds women wearing pantsuits, dressy coordinates to include a tailored jacket, skirts or pants, and close-toed shoes with hosiery. Men wear dress shirts with ties, sport coats, and dress slacks. No khaki pants or jeans.
  3. Business casual dictates that both men and women wear tailored, professional looking separates. Men do not wear coats or ties. No jeans, tee shirts, collar-less shirts, or open-toed sandals or shoes.

Once you've determined what your job's dress code is don't fear that your style is out of the question. Here are some great tips to add flare and style to your new dress code and make the other employees salivate and envy your savvy.

  • Although formal business wear means that you're in a suit all day, and unless your firm is ultra-conservative, you can add a splash of color and mix clothing textures to be more stylish. Men can add a red- or plum-colored silk handkerchief to the breast pocket, to coordinate with a silk tie. Ladies can add a pop of color with a bright handbag or scarf, and add a conservative solid metal pin to the suit lapel.
  • General business attire provides opportunity to mix suit coats with separate pants. Men can look professional in black dress slacks paired with a tan sport coat. Women can wear a conservative pencil skirt with a print blouse and crop jacket, and coordinating pumps.
  • Business casual attire gives more leeway to employees in that they can wear brightly colored separates, with more latitude for jewelry and other accessories. Find outfits that combine differing material textures and colors to spice up your professional wardrobe.

What to expect from a spa

by Jessica 18. March 2009 04:09

Going to a spa is like investing in a beautiful relaxing vacation. The right spa visit will leave you feeling wonderfully rejuvinated and ready to tackle what comes your way next. Below are some great tips and pointers into choosing the right spa to what you can expect from your visit.

Go to fullsize image

Before choosing a spa for any treatment, you should:

  • Choose a reputable day spa from personal referrals.
  • Tour the day spa before making an appointment to decide if you like the atmosphere. A good day spa will be relaxing, beautiful, and clean, with plush towels and a ready staff.
  • Check the available packages and prices. A good day spa will offer single treatments, as well as full packages.
  • Check the credentials of the therapists and personnel.
  • Decide how much money you want to spend for the treatments you want.

Go to fullsize image

What to expect from your visit:

  1. The receptionist will offer you something to drink and then escort you to the locker room, pointing out your lush robe and slippers. Change clothes and prepare to be pampered.
  2. While sipping your hot tea, waiting in the relaxing lounge area, your facial masseuse fetches you to the massage table, where she tucks you under a warm blanket and gives you your facial treatment.
  3. The receptionist escorts you to another comfortable room for your body massage. Your masseuse helps you to lie down on the table, offering towels to cover yourself if you desire. Twenty-five minutes with expert hands has you feeling relaxed yet simultaneously invigorated.
  4. Led to the aromatherapy showers and baths, you let all of your cares rinse down the drain.
  5. One more trip to another massage room for a total body oil massage and you're nearly finished. The masseuse even massages your head and scalp, and you are completely relaxed as she finishes her therapy with your feet and toes.
  6. Once escorted back to the lounge, you will be asked if you'd like more tea. You are free to relax there as long as you wish before returning to the locker room and dressing to leave.
  7. Before you leave, you pay for your services and the receptionist offers products for you to buy, take home, and use there.

Depending upon the spa some of these steps above may be in a different order and there may be some add ins that you experience. It is in my opinion that the above list is a MINIMUM of what you should experience anything extra pat yourself on the back for finding a real gem of therapist/spa!

Classic Easter Styles

by Jessica 16. March 2009 03:51

Easter is April 12th, 2009 so in honor of the coming holiday I decided to check out what some of the most classic styles for the occaision were. Whether you are dressing a little girl, pre-teen, adult woman, or all three, I have some classic style tips that you can't go wrong with.

  • Children under twelve. For a girl, choose a pastel dress with ribbons and sashes. Patent leather shoes and a matching pocketbook, as well as a coordinating Easter bonnet helps complete a classic outfit. A young boy looks dapper in a button-down shirt with a pastel vest and dress slacks.
  • M555W: Toddler Little Girls Clothes IVORY BUTTERFLY Easter Dress LITO 2T-14from Sophia Style $49.99 - $59.99

  • Pre-teens and teenagers. Young ladies can look elegant and classy for Easter wearing a flowing dress with an empire waist and scooped neckline. Although most teens won't wear an Easter hat, they can accessorize with appropriate jewelry and shoes. Young men can sport a crisp suit in brown, but should steer clear of pastel-colored jackets and slacks.
  • Ribbon accent flower girl dress from My Girl Dress $49.50

  • Adult women. Adults can choose from a sheath dress with cropped jacket, a print skirt with coordinating feminine blouse, and many other separates from which to choose. Accessories play a great part in a classic Easter outfit, including gloves, hats, pocketbooks, and shoes. Adult men can show reverence for the Easter Day by choosing a classic suit in navy, brown, or black. Accessorize a suit with a boutonnire or pastel-colored handkerchief peeking from the breast pocket.
  • Portrait Floral Sheath Dress from Ann Taylor $169

    Top 10 Beauty Myths

    by Jessica 16. March 2009 03:39

Myths run rampant in every part of life and beauty ones are no exception to the rule. I'm sure you've heard tips and tricks like “Put mayo in your hair and it will strengthen it/help it grow/etc.” Below are the Top Ten Beauty Myths busted wide open.

1.) Rubbing Lemon upon your teeth will give you the white smile you crave.

While this actually does work the price to the enamel on your teeth is not worth the results. Instead try brushing with water and baking soda 2-3 times a week for a whiter smile that will make you and your dentist happy!

2.) Fake nails destroy and damage your real nails.

Simply not true. It is not the glue or the acrylic nails that damage your real nail, it is the process many use to remove them. Do not pull them off, pick at them, etc. instead go to the beautician who did your nails and have them removed properly.

3.) Laser hair removal doe not work on light hair.

Proposterous and absolutely not true. It is true that laser hair removal works more effectively the FIRST time for darker hair and only about 80% on light hair, so if you're fair of hair schedule an additional appt. and you're good to go.

4.) You need to cut your hair frequently if you wish it to grow.

Not true. The hair grows from the root so cutting its ends are not going to speed up the growth process. It will however help keep your hair style fresh and tangle free at the ends.

5.) Petite girls can't pull off the sexy lingerie look.

Dumb, double dumb myth. On today's lingerie market there are so many styles, cuts, designers, and more that any woman wishing to spice it up no matter her size, body shape, and more is sure to find that special something!

6.) Breakouts are brought on by oily skin.

While many associate pimples and breakouts with oily skin in truth there are many causes that could be at the root of the problem. If you've tried the line of products assciated with curing oily skin breakouts my advice is to try something for 'sensitive' skin and you will likely see results. You can also turn to your regular health care physician for more in-depth advice.

7.) Organic products are weak and show little results.

Craziness! This myth is a bit on the older side since I have finally noticed the huge turn around in organic beauty products that are being marketed such as mineral based powders, and more. Truth: Organic products are the best you can get, try them!

8.) You cannot pull off all colors.

This one is just irritating. With some style advice you can indeed wear the colors your heart desires. A few tips to wearing that fave color you've had your eye on is to pay close attention to the shade and its undertones in comparison to your complexion.

9.) Chlorine colors your hair green.

Boy wouldn't the summer swim holes be out of business were this particular myth true! Copper...not chlorine colors the hair green. Stay away from copper coated pools and you're good.

10.) Crossing your legs will give you spider veins.

Simply untrue. Most things like spider veins or vericosse veins are hereditary. If you're worried about getting either of these speak with your physician and consider asking your mother/grandmother/etc. if perhaps they run in the family.

Top 5 Makeup Tips for 2009

    by Jessica 12. March 2009 07:33
     Makeup Tips
     Go to fullsize image
    1. Don’t skimp on creating a canvas! Preparing the skin for color is crucial. This includes using a moisturizer under makeup to make the skin moist and supple. Choose one with light reflective properties to improve the appearance of dry sluggish skin. Many concealers, foundations and powders have light reflective properties that brighten skin and create a beautiful glow. Taking time to perfect skin will always improve the look for your makeup application.

    2. Understand how light and dark play on your skin! Light makeup colors will always make an area appear brighter, bigger and more pronounced. Light eye shadow will keep eyes bigger. A slight frost and shine in lipstick will enhance thinner lips. Be careful though, the opposite is also true. Dark eyeliner, such as black, will make eyes more defined but also create the illusion that they are smallGo to fullsize imageer. Blush that is too dark can flatten cheekbones instead of lift them up.

    3. Put color in the right place! Bright or intense color in eye shadow will draw attention to your makeup instead of the sparkle in your eye! Switch to more subtle and neutral shadows and bring color in with eyeliner instead.

    4. Gloss is fashionable and effective for all ages! Gloss isn’t just for teens. Today’s gloss stays put and lasts, so it is effective for all faces. It keeps lips looking moist, full and youthful. It adds fullness and freshness to your look. It also brighten and lifts lipstick for an ‘into the night’ look that dazzles!

    5. Don’t let your makeup run away! There are products you should not ignore if staying power is a problem for you. Face powder will set concealer and liquid foundation and make it last all day. Wetting various eye shadows with a small brush and painting on will create an all day wear eyeliner that will never smudge!

Make 2009 your best year ever and look fabulous doing it!

    Top Nail Beauty Tips

    by Jessica 10. March 2009 03:59

    Top Nail Beauty Tips

    Problem: Weak, Brittle nails

If you wish for stronger and more healthy nails try some of the clear nail polish enhancers that are on the market today.

Keep your nails shorter until they are stronger, then let them grow a bit longer.

Moisturize your hands (and nails) often. Find some good hydrated lotion and keep it handy so you will apply it often.

Question: What should a good Mani entail?

A thorough nail manicure will last at least 40 minutes, and you can expect the following from a professional:

    • She will make sure that you see and know that her tools have been cleaned before she uses them in your session.
    • Her table will be clean.
    • She will inspect your hands and nails, pointing out and discussing any problems with you.
    • She will ask questions about your hands and nails, and address your concerns.
    • She will either cut your cuticles or push them back, asking your preference. If you ask the advantages and disadvantages to each method, she will be able to confidently explain both options and suggest her recommendations.
    • If you have nail ridges, she will remove them by buffing and then fill them in with a good nail base coat.
    • She will remove any cuticle oil before polishing, but never use acetone-based removers, since they will completely dry out the nails. She will simply use soap and water, towel dry, and then apply polish. In that way, the polish will last 10 times longer.
    • She will file your nails in only one direction.
    • If you want polish, she will apply four thin coats: base coat, two coats of polish, and a top coat. Drying time for each coat will be at least 10 minutes.
    • Although there are quick-dry polishes, your professional manicurist will tell you that you should avoid touching your nails for at least an hour after polishing.
