Stylish Steals! Urban Outfitters $9.99 and under sale

by Sarah 28. January 2010 06:03

We love Urban Outfitters, but sometimes we find their pieces just a tad overpriced. That's why we love their sale section. The great thing about Urban is that you know the thing you want will go on sale eventually (and unlike Forever21, it's not likely to sell out before it hits the sale rack). There are currently some great finds on Urban's website as we speak. Check our picks below, all from the $9.99 and under sale!

Style Steals: Fashion Blogger Jane Aldridge designs shoes for Urban Outfitters

by Sarah 24. June 2009 05:32

If you read any number of fashion blogs on the regular, chances are, 17 year old Jane Aldridge's Sea of Shoes is one of them. Aldridge, who's required to wear a school uniform and flat shoes five days a week, has an enviable closet stocked with Chanel, Martin Margiela and Prada - and that's just the shoes. Jane, a statuesque blonde who is the daughter of an eighties glamour model, can wear just about anything - and that she does. She and her mother Judy collect vintage and designer pieces for their shared closet, which is more accurately described as a dream wardrobe.

Jane's self-described "shoe addiction" has lead to many opportunities in the fashion world, the latest of which is designing a three pair capsule collection of shoes for Urban Outfitters. The shoes launch in July, and are pictured below. You can also read Jane's official press release. Will you be snatching them up? I have to say, as much as I think of Jane as a young style icon, these shoes don't really do it for me. I suppose the lace up boots are interesting, but they look like a poor rip-off of Ann Demeuleester to me. Aldridge loves Victorian style, and is a big Ann D. fan, but I was expecting something a bit more creative from the 17 year old shoe goddess.

Do you guys like the shoes?

PRESS RELEASE

"Jane Aldridge may be just 17 years old, but the Dallas-based fashion blogger has an impressive global following on her personal style blog, Sea of Shoes. "Ever since I've reached my full shoe size I've been fanatical about collecting shoes," says Aldridge. "That's how my blog got started, as a means of chronicling my addiction to beautiful footwear and the evolution of my personal style," she adds.

The magnetic Texas teen has to wear a school uniform five days a week with a one and a half inch heel rule, but outside of class, flats are the last thing you'll see her wearing. From YSL cage heels and Chanel bow-tie booties to Margiela clogs, Aldridge pairs her favored heels with equally envied outfits. And now, she has found another creative outlet for her passion; designing shoes herself, with the help of Urban Outfitters.

Launching next month, J. Aldridge by Sea of Shoes is a capsule collection of three styles, exclusive to Urban Outfitters. Dramatic knee-high brown leather peep-toe boots feature top-stitched detailing and lacing at the front, black gladiator heels with studs and twin buckle straps, and lace-up, pointy skimmers. "I'm really excited to bring my designs to Urban Outfitters," says Aldridge. "The inspiration for this collection is a mish-mash of some of the elements of my favorite pairs—sort of Victoriana meets gladiator warrior."

Get the look: Street Style

by Christine 18. March 2009 09:15

I saw this awesome outfit on the blog Garance Dore and instantly fell in love. She is wearing all the pieces that I want to have in my wardrobe. A really good, pretty gray blazer, a camel cardigan ( I own this exact one!), a solid leather bag, over-sized sunglasses, a top that can be layered over and with, and light gray jeans. The way she puts this all together is so laid back looking but perfectly crafted. I must say I love looks that give off the causal look but that still looks stylish and chic. Plus, her hair is awesome. Love the curls!

These awesome, functional shoulder bags are super trendy but very also very functional and helpful. Not only do they help keep your belongings safe by being strapped across your body, they also look very cool and hip. Whether they come in a lovely brown or camel color or more of a hip, sharp black, these strappy bags will go perfect with whatever outfit you choose.  What do you think of these purses, my lovelies? Do you think they are dated or super cool? Would you wear one on a date or would you only wear it while running errands? Tell me, I would love to know!

The Look for Less: T by Alexander Wang T-Shirt Dress

by Sarah 16. March 2009 06:23
God, I want the Alex Wang T-shirt dress below SO BADLY. I think I would consider selling my soul for it. The soft cotton, the perfect slouchy fit...I die. Except I can't really rationalize spending almost $100 on an oversized t-shirt. Beauty is pain, but money is money, and since I don't have a lot of it, I can't really afford this T by Alexander Wang Shirt Dress. Thankfully, Urban Outfitters brand Silence & Noise has come to my rescue! They've done their take on the Alex Wang dress, and done it for only $48. It's still not cheap, but it's definitely better than $85! Now, if only they'd do a version of his grey tee...

Cape coats!

by Christine 13. March 2009 08:47

I came across this adorable outfit on The Sartorialist and think that the boots I previously blogged about would go perfectly with this ensemble. I found this similar cape coat that is so cute and chic! I would love to wear this outfit while running around to appointments or even for a fun night out on the town. And, aren't her leather gloves and bag so cool? Love it! Have a happy weekend everyone!

New at Urban Outfitters: Mirror/Dash

by Christine 26. February 2009 06:46

I just found out that Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth will be flexing her fashion muscle and directing her talents towards her newest project Mirror/Dash, designed exclusively for Urban Outfitters. How exciting! Her pieces look cool...very downtown urban chic. Although she doesn't have that many pieces at the moment, I went through and selected my three favorites. I think I would tuck the white shirt into the skirt, throw the sweater over top, and pair the whole look with some gold hoops, black tights, biker boots and some sort of beret. What are your favorite pieces from her line? Click here to shop!

The Look for Less: Alexander Wang Sweat Shorts

by Sarah 25. February 2009 05:54

I know. Even the title sounds like an oxy moron. Designer sweat shorts? Whoever heard of such a thing. Well, apparently, Fashion Boy Wonder Alexander Wang did, and he's selling them for $225 at Barney's. Craziness, right? If you ask me, these are the kind of thing that will only look good on modelesque skinny girls with toothpick legs. But who am I to hate? If these are your thing, I'd recommend scooping up the Urban Outfitters knockoff. They retail for a much easier on the wallet $38. Or, you could just go to Target, grab a pair of oversized grey sweats and make them yourself. Just a thought.

A Whole Outfit for Under $150!

by Christine 24. February 2009 07:05

Wouldn't this be the cutest outfit to wear while strolling around on a lazy Saturday? Since I live in New York, I could picture myself, beret tilted to one side, wandering around the historic West Village, thinking about all the cool people that had roamed the same streets at one point. I think my favorite aspect about this outfit is the combination of a slight bohemian look—with the ruffled sleeve shirt with detailing around the neck and bottom hem—paired with the hip oxford flats and beatnick-type black capri jeans. And, the great part about the vest is it so neutral that it blends in and doesn't overwhelm the outfit but still adds an interesting layering aspect. Click on the links below to go shopping, especially because each item is $30 and under!

Vest, $20

Hat, $15

Jeans, $20

Shirt, $23

Shoes, $30

Grand total:

$108!
