Getting Ready for Prom!

by Prachi 1. April 2010 03:46

Its the middle of Prom Season! Girls, are you ready? The guys have it easy, they just have to pay for the prom tickets, dinner and rent a tux. No big deal. How hard can it be to rent a tux anyways...

The Dress:

If you haven't found that ideal dress yet check out our blog post from February. Maybe you'll find something you didn't notice earlier. This is my personal favorite – its to die for in purple and looks expensive, though it only costs $25.

The Shoes:

These shoes from Overstock have the look for less at under $40! You'll be able to find a ton of great buys there.

This beautiful cloth shoe has a pleated color ribbon that flows over a simple yet elegant black bow. I promise, this picture doesn't do the shoe any justice:

These formal pumps are gorgeous and perfect for prom! With 4 or 5 different colors they'll match almost any dress. The uppers are covered in rhinestones, making them glamorous and a steal!

Now these Albert Nipon pumps are stylish but probably not the best compliment to your prom dress. I just added them because they're pretty and a great deal (only $20!).

The Jewelry

This season if you check out the celebs you'll be seeing a lot of hoop earrings. And anyone been following Kristen Stewart's style? Her red carpet appearances have all been in a strapless dress without a necklace. It makes her - and her dress pop even more.

Keep your neckline empty or simple, instead wear a pair of "wow" earrings for prom - like chandelier earrings. For prom, you want the attention to center first on your dress and THEN on your jewelry. Try Zulumoon.com, they have some great earrings (and a huge sale).

I went a bit overboard with the earrings but what can I say? I love to look. The first 3 earrings are made with Marcasite (a type of gem/crystal) set in sterling silver and each is less than $30! The next 3 are made with Cubic Zirconia, also set in sterling silver.

If you click on these earrings, it will take you to their product page.

The End

Hope that helps! You've got plenty to think about when it comes to prom, this should make all that accessorizing a bit simpler.

Yay or nay: bows

by Christine 29. January 2009 18:33

I have a question for you...Yes or no when it comes to bows? I am in favor, I must say. I love how such a small accent like a bow, whether it is part of a shirt or made into a ring or necklace, can add the most perfect, yet subtle feminine touch to any outfit. So, tell me, what do you think? I would love to know your thoughts!

Baubles Galore!

by Sarah 28. January 2009 07:32

No, I don't mean bubbles. I mean baubles, as in big, gorgeous, funky fun jewelry! I'm a BIG fan of accessories- they comprise a good deal of my wardrobe and have taken over both my walls and my bathroom. I'm not kidding. I thought I'd provide some bauble-flavored inspiration via Forever21, who has the best cheap jewelry around. I'd say about 1/2 of my jewelry is Forevs, the other half is vintage, and sometimes I can't tell the difference between the two! Check out the inspirational pieces below, and consider mixing and matching. Mixing it up is the best way to look fabulous without a) appearing like you tried too hard or b) actually trying too hard. Enjoy!

Outfit Inspiration: Jewels in Shades of Blue

by Sarah 28. January 2009 07:06

Anyone who kept up to date with the coverage of the Spring 2009 shows last fall knows that jewelry on the runway continues to be a force to be reckoned with. As Spring is upon us, I suggest you start stocking up on beautiful baubles to add to your most basic (and most complicated!) outfits. Jewelry can add a bit of sparkle to even the most boring emsemble. I'll start you off with some jewels in the shade of a dulled turquoise blue. This gorgeous color adds unexpected flair, especially when paired with neutrals or blacks. So why not overdose on shades of blue? I'll be right there next to you!

Wet Seal Metallic Blue Bangle: $2.99
Tano Jewelry Blue Beaded Bracelet: $6.99
Forever21 Painted Teardrop Earrings: $3.80
Forever21 Faux Stone Bangle: $5.80
Forever21 Wild Zebra Cuff Watch: $12.80
Light Blue Acrylic Rose Ring: $12.00

Ring in the new year!

by Lindsay 19. January 2009 17:34

There is nothing you can do to spruce up an outfit that qualifies as easier than slipping on a cocktail ring. Whether with a dress, jeans and a tee, a casual skirt... It all looks just a little more polished and unique with a big ol' stone on your finger.

Cocktail rings have been on the rise in the fashion world with everyone from celebrities to designers, to students to high-powered execs... Everyone loves a cocktail ring.

While the rich and powerful wear actual gemstones and rare geographical formations on their rings, we (the "underlings") wear - well, whatever we want! Fortunately for us, there are ton and tons of cocktail rings make to look like natural stones, valuable metals and precious gems - for way less than any celebrity is paying. Looks like we've got the upper hand, so to speak.

Who said bling had to be expensive?

by Sarah 8. January 2009 09:04

I'll be the first to admit, I love me some bling. Gold, silver, sparkly - anything will do, really. Unfortunately, I don't exactly have the funds to support a huge jewelry habit. Thank god for Forever21, which is a veritable playground of affordable jewels for addicts like myself. At around $3.80 a pop, I can buy millions of things for the price of one expensive piece.

Take this Jeweled Chain Mail Necklace. I'm loving the oversized statement nature of this piece. I'm picturing it with an oversized pocket tank and some skinnies, a la Alexander Wang.

I'm also really feeling this textured gold ring. It reminds me of the rings in the collaboration collection Robert Lee Morris did with the Olsens on their Elizabeth and James line. This ring makes a statement without needing a big rock on it. It's simple, but it's got beauty in the details.
Also, I DIE over this headband. D.I.E. Sorry, Rachel, didn't mean to steal a Zoeism, but GOD, how much do I need this headband? I need it BADLY. I need it like a drug! The pink! The flowers! The mesh! The beads! The size! AH, must HAVE. At $8.80, it will be mine.
I told you I have a weakness for anything gold, and this necklace is totally giving it to me. The layered shape is very Givenchy, the loops make it different, and did I mention it's gold? Bling, bling!
Check out the Forever21 website for more great stylish deals. Forevers, you never let me down!
