Splurge vs. Save: Patterned Leggings!

by Sarah 13. August 2009 03:25

As much as many people wish the leggings trend would just vanish, it doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Quite the contrary, really, it seems leggings, especially patterned ones, are going to be big for fall and perhaps even through the winter. The eighties has been back in a big way, especially on the Fall 2009 runways - so it's no surprise that this party girl trend doesn't want to leave.

American Apparel is, of course, the go-to brand for patterned leggings. We're crushing on these babies.   But at $42 a pop, getting a variety of patterns isn't exactly affordable. Enter cheap and chic favorite Forever21. They've jumped on the leggings bandwagon in a big way, with a variety of patterns available! Check out these groovy ones, or these black and white ones for just $9.80. Why spend over $40 when you can spend under $10?

The Look for Less: LNA Thrashed Leggings

by Sarah 18. March 2009 05:35

These LNA Thrashed Leggings aren't for the faint of heart. I'm still on the fence about them- I don't necessarily think they're wearable, nor are they practical, not to mention, you could just rip up an old pair of leggings yourself. But that being said, some people like them. However, for $129 at Singer22, they're a bit pricey, even for those who could rock this trend. American Apparel (who are probably kicking themselves that they didn't think of this indie hipster trend first) have released a version for only $32. Still a bit expensive for something I could make myself, but a heck of a lot cheaper than the LNA ones.

Yay or nay: Circle Scarves

by Christine 27. February 2009 07:11

Aren't you all so happy it's Friday? I am! Anyway, recently, my roommate and another best friend of mine told me they bought the The Unisex Circle Scarf from American Apparel...one bought it in a pretty blue and one bought it in a dark gray color. My personal stance on this accessory is, YAY! I am envious and want to get one too! With the one from AA, it comes with instructions on all sorts of different ways you can wear it, which is very cool and makes it really versatile. As far as circle scarves in general, I am also loving this one that Susie from Style Bubble is wearing. It looks really lovely against the contrasting bright yellow. So, I would like to leave you with this question. Circle scarves...yes, no, maybe? Do you feel they are too cumbersome or do you love getting all cozy and wrapping your neck up in a lots and lots of fabric? I would love to know your thoughts! Oh, and happy weekend!

Get the look: Jen Frausto of Sleepy Pie Eyes

by Christine 23. February 2009 13:20

I have been a fan of the photostream Sleepy Pie Eyes, which is Jen Frausto's flickr site. I came across this picture of her last week and it has just stuck with me. So much so, that I decided to create a similar outfit to the one she is wearing in the photo. It is not exact, but I feel that it stays within the same vein and style that she was aiming for, and a look that I like to call school girl chic! I found this adorable shirt at Buckle, which I would tuck into the high waisted skirt from American Apparel. As for the socks, I think you could actually find some cute ones with ruffles on them at any Kmart or Target. And lastly, the shoes, which I love are from Nine West and are on sale! Enjoy!

The Look for Less: body hugging LBD

by Sarah 12. January 2009 09:11

Every girl needs a least a few great LBDs in her closet. You know, that perfect black dress that you can wear anytime, anywhere and still feel fabulous. If you're lagging on your LBD collecting, let me start you off with a fantastic look for less.

Perusing the ShopBop website, I came across this Velvet Jessamine Dress, which features a body hugging style that flatters with side ruching and slims with black. It's a mini dress but could probably be pulled up or down to make it more or less so. But at $130, it's a bit expensive for something so basic.

Thank god I know my basics and happen to know that American Apparel makes this dress for much, much less. Case in point: the AA version of this dress is only $38 buckaroos. You could get it in all colors and still pay less than the Velvet version. The AA U-neck dresses have been popular for quite some time now, but this long sleeved version only recently made its debut. However, you have to wonder if the Velvet version is in fact modeled after the less expensive AA one. It's a chicken and egg debate, but I'm putting my money on the American Apparel one. They made this dress famous before anyone else was using the shape.
What are you waiting for? Get out there and shop!
